Is chivalry dead?
I truly think it must be. I thought about it this morning as I stood on the bus. It was one of those double-long buses, and I was one of the only two people standing. Everyone else was sitting comfortably... reading books, listening to MP3 players, picking their noses, etc. I was wedged into the accordion section of the bus, standing next to a guy my age that was staring off into space. As I looked down at his thinning crown, I wondered... if this was 1964, would he have gotten up and offered his seat to me?
I bet he would have. But it ain't 1964. It's 2004. Women have struggled for equality, both at home and in the workplace. This so called equality has come with a pretty hefty price tag. The manners of men. Many mothers today don't seem to be raising their boys to respect women and their girls to respect themselves. You can't really get respect until you respect yourself.
And as for men today, I would like to believe that chivalry does still exist. Can women have it both ways? Can we still have the door opened for us and be the boss of the very same man that opened it?
Going to Purdue for Homecoming this weekend. We are going to kick some Badger ass! I'll have plenty of stories and pictures upon my return.
