The workers at Potbelly's are hella friendly. It was all smiles and joking and laughter as I ordered my delicious roast beef sandwich. The people working there spoke English and understood everything I said to them. I wonder how their training program differs from the one over at Subway. Those morose motherfuckers won't be seeing my $3.14 for awhile.
So...
I saw U2 last night.
And...
It was awesome!
The whole time I was there, I couldn't believe I was that close to Bono. This iconic figure who I have admired for quite some time... who has been blown into God-like status by Dio... was only yards away from me!
Dio and I look better a bit fuzzy, n'cest pas?
They played songs I did not recognize (but that are all now DLed onto my iTunes) and plenty that I did. It was quite the spectacle. Dio tells me the stage set up has been completely pared down from prior tours, but it looked pretty damn impressive to me.
The picture quality bites the big one since cameras were expressly forbidden and I only had my camera phone to rely on. Too bad I saw like 7 people around us taking pictures and recording video. Dio warned me not to take in a camera because he didn't want to be kicked out, but I knew that they would probably be pretty lax with security. I should have went with my instinct and crotched it. That has worked for many illegal things in the past.
So, this is going to be the summer of many concerts. The summer of 1996, I went to 27 concerts... including as Pearl Jam, Hootie, Live, Alanis, Stabbing Westward, Weezer, NIN and Offspring. Remember that musical era? Lyrics were important. Now all that matters is how often you are featured in Us Weekly and the extent they can doctor your voice in the studio. It chaps my hide. Bring back the real talent!
After the last 2 concerts I've seen, I have hope. U2 and Moby blew me away. I think that this poppy bullshit will finally fade soon and the kick ass rockers will take root once again.
